*slow claps* Bravo. Savage Lands by Stacey Marie Brown was an intense read. I really enjoyed this. This is not your typical fantasy romance read.

Surprised me quite a bit and I did not hesitate to buy her other books in this series.

Savage Lands has fae with a mix of dystopian world that makes it a unique fantasy book that you need to check out.

World building. The plot. The characters. *Chefs kiss* Basic and utter spicy trash. Certainly high on the spicy level.

Loving every moment of it.

Graphic promoting a book review titled 'Honest Book Review: Savage Lands.' The background features the book cover of Savage Lands with the title in large, distressed text against a dark, gritty backdrop with hints of green and abstract imagery. The overlay text includes the review title in a clean, serif font, along with a four-star rating. The 'Booktrovert Reader' branding is displayed in the top right corner.

This makes Hunger Games look like a walk in the park and they are stabbing themselves with plastic spoons. *whispers* it is still good and you need to still read Hunger Games in my opinion.

A lot of times in this book, you don’t expect a lot of things that happen. It can get very violent in there. The things that the fae prison puts the character through kind of makes your toes curl as you are reading it. This is not a happy place to be in for sure.

What really made this a five-star read for me was how completely immersive and intense the world felt. The stakes are constantly high, and there’s this underlying tension that never lets up—you truly feel like anything could happen at any moment. The unpredictability kept me hooked, and I found myself flying through the pages because I had to know what Brexley would face next. If you’re looking for a dark fantasy book that fully pulls you into a brutal, high-stakes world, this is easily a top-tier dark fantasy book recommendation.

And then there’s the dynamic between the characters—especially the push and pull with Warwick. It’s dark, dangerous, and filled with this electric tension that adds another layer to an already ruthless setting. Nothing comes easy in this story, and that’s what makes every moment hit even harder. If you love gritty fantasy, morally gray characters, and intense, edge-of-your-seat moments, this is a dark fantasy book recommendation you don’t want to miss.

I love the main character Brexley, even though she was trained to be a fighter. She was human and she had a choice to succumb to her fears and die or choose to fight to survive. You got to see her mental process as she chooses to fight to stay alive.

Now, I will warn you, this is an incredibly slow burn spicy fantasy romance, and the author knows how to get you to come back for the second book. It is super utterly painful. Darn you Warwick. Darn you.

If you want more dystopian with your spice, consider reading Silver Elite by Dani Francis to turn up the spice level.
