If you’re anything like me, your TBR grows faster than you can read it.

Between work, family, and life in general, finding time to sit down with a book isn’t always easy. That’s what made me finally give Audible a try. While I still love physically reading my books, Audible has become one of my favorite ways to fit more stories into my day.

If you’ve been wondering whether Audible is actually worth the monthly cost, here are 10 reasons why it might be worth it—especially if you’re a fantasy reader.

1. Fantasy Books Are Long

Let’s start with the obvious.

Fantasy books aren’t exactly known for being short. Many popular fantasy and romantasy books easily exceed 500 pages, and some series can feel like a full-time commitment.

Listening to an audiobook while driving, cleaning, or walking the dog makes those lengthy books feel much more manageable.

2. You Can Read While Doing Other Things

One of the biggest benefits of Audible is that reading no longer requires you to be sitting on the couch with a book in your hands.

You can listen while:

  • Driving
  • Folding laundry
  • Cooking dinner
  • Going for a walk
  • Running errands

Suddenly, all those little pockets of time become reading time.

3. The Narrators Bring Characters to Life

A great narrator can completely transform a story.

Different voices, accents, emotions, and dramatic moments add another layer to the experience. Some fantasy audiobooks feel more like listening to a performance than simply hearing someone read a book.

4. It Makes Rereads More Fun

There are some fantasy worlds I never want to leave.

Instead of dedicating weeks to rereading a favorite series, I can revisit beloved characters while going about my day. It’s one of my favorite ways to experience a story again.

5. One Credit Can Save You Money

Audible’s credit system is actually one of its biggest advantages.

Each monthly credit can be redeemed for almost any audiobook regardless of its retail price. Some of these fantasy books can be expensive.

That means a 30-hour fantasy epic costs the same number of credits as a much shorter book.

6. You Keep Your Books

This was something I didn’t realize when I first signed up.

Even if you decide to cancel Audible later, the audiobooks you’ve purchased with credits remain yours. You’re not renting them—you own them.

And if you’re comparing convenience + value between subscriptions, I also break down 10 Reasons to Sign Up for Kindle Unlimited — so you can decide if you want Audible, KU… or both (most fantasy readers end up doing both eventually 😂).

7. Fantasy Audiobooks Are Better Than Ever

Audiobook production quality has improved tremendously over the years.

Many fantasy books now feature incredible narrators, dual narrators, and immersive storytelling that makes the experience feel richer than ever before.

8. It Helps You Get Through Slower Books

We all have those books.

The ones we want to read but keep putting down because the pacing is slow or the worldbuilding is dense.

Sometimes hearing the story instead of reading it can make those books much easier to get through.

9. It Helps Reduce Reading Slumps

When I’m in a reading slump, sometimes the issue isn’t that I don’t want a story.

It’s that I don’t have the energy to sit down and physically read.

Audiobooks allow me to stay connected to books even when my reading motivation is running low.

10. You'll Probably Read More Books

This is the biggest reason Audible has been worth it for me.

No, it doesn’t replace physical reading.

No, it doesn’t replace curling up with a good book.

But it does allow me to experience more stories throughout the year than I otherwise would. So it helps me read more books.

And for a fantasy reader with an endless TBR, that’s a pretty compelling reason.

Audible vs Kindle Unlimited

If you’re trying to decide between Audible and Kindle Unlimited, the answer really depends on your reading habits.

Choose Audible if:

  • You spend a lot of time driving
  • You enjoy listening while multitasking
  • You struggle to find dedicated reading time

Choose Kindle Unlimited if:

  • You read several books every month
  • You primarily read ebooks
  • You enjoy binge-reading fantasy romance

Personally, I think they serve two completely different purposes.

Final Verdict: Is Audible Worth It?

For fantasy readers, I’d say yes.

If you regularly find yourself wishing you had more time to read, Audible can be a great way to fit more books into your life. While it won’t replace the joy of physically reading a book, it can help you tackle those massive fantasy series and finally make a dent in your ever-growing TBR.

And honestly, anything that helps me get through more fantasy books is a win in my book.
