First-Time Caller by B.K. Borison

Heartstrings #1

Rated 5 out of 5

Okay, I have to admit—this book completely snuck up on me in the best way possible. First-Time Caller  by B.K Corison is like a warm hug wrapped in the coziest rom-com vibes, sprinkled with just the right amount of awkward, swoony tension. This swoony rom-com is inspired by the classic romantic movie Sleepless in Seattle. Oddly enough, I never watched the movie but I can imagine that this book is much like it.

First off, Aiden Valentine is a romance radio host who has lost faith in love. The irony is strong with this one. Then we have Lucie, an independent, hardworking single mom who suddenly finds her non-existent dating life under the city’s spotlight thanks to her meddling (but honestly iconic) daughter. Cue public matchmaking, radio drama, and a whole lot of accidental chemistry between Lucie and Aiden.

Their banter? Gold. The slow-burn romance? Chef’s kiss. The way Aiden starts catching feelings despite his I’m-too-jaded-for-this attitude? Absolutely delightful. I love the build up tension in this story where it was friendship that slowly built up to love.

Now, let’s talk about the audiobook experience—because trust me, this one needs to be listened to. The dual narration is perfection, and it makes all those late-night radio call-ins, sarcastic quips, and flirty moments even better. If you love rom-coms with a unique setup, witty dialogue, and characters you actually want to root for, this is a must-read (or, even better, must-listen).

One of the things I loved about the ending was how Lucie handled Aiden’s baggage. Yes, he leans way too hard into the whole miscommunication trope (sir, please just talk), but instead of giving him some dramatic ultimatum—“Love me now or lose me forever!”—Lucie stays true to herself. Her journey isn’t about chasing love; it’s about realizing she deserves it without compromising who she is. She doesn’t try to force Aiden to be ready, but she also doesn’t settle. Instead, she tells him what she wants and gives him space to figure it out on his own. And honestly? That made their love story feel even more real and satisfying.

Final verdict: First-Time Caller is fun, heartwarming, and the kind of book that makes you believe in love again… or at least in the power of a good radio segment. It’s packed with witty banter, swoon-worthy moments, and just the right amount of emotional depth to keep you fully invested. Aiden and Lucie’s journey is messy, sweet, and refreshingly real, making their romance feel all the more satisfying. Plus, with a supporting cast that adds humor and heart (special shoutout to Lucie’s daughter for being the best wingwoman ever), this book delivers a feel-good experience from start to finish. If you’re in the mood for a romance book that will make you laugh, swoon, and maybe even tear up a little, First-Time Caller is one you won’t want to miss!
