A Fire in the Sky by Sophie Jordan dark is so refreshing that I literally finished this in a few days.
⚔️Arranged Marriage
⚔️Dragons
A Fire in the Sky by Sophie Jordan dark and captivating fantasy romance is filled with rich world-building and fill with complex characters. This also has an enthralling mix of forbidden magic, political intrigue, and slow burn romance. The story takes place where dragons are extinct and all but forgotten. But power remains a constant threat, especially for Tamsyn, the protagonist who navigates the perilous line between servant and nobility.
Tamsyn’s unique role in the court as both a family member and the royal scapegoat intensifies her deep internal conflict. She is considered the the royal whipping girl which means she takes on the punishment of her sisters. Which in this world, considered a prestigious position to take on.
She belongs nowhere and lives to see the day her sisters would get married so she no longer has to be the royal whipping girl. A position that was created that I have no idea how that seems to be a honored position in the royal court.
However, her life takes a dramatic turn when Fell, the legendary Beast of the Borderlands, comes to claim a bride, forcing her into a dangerous deception. Instead of one of the sisters that will be given, Tamsyn was offered secretively in their stead.
What begins as an arranged marriage based on lies quickly evolves unravels into an intense, unpredictable relationship. The wedding night scene burst with tension, mixing unexpected passion with the harsh reality of betrayal.
I have to admit, this is not a typical scene you see in a fantasy romance book and I found this refreshing in its own way.
Fell, despite Tamsyn’s deceit, finds acceptance of the relationship that was forced upon him. As the story unfolds, Tamsyn’s mysterious background slowly comes to light, revealing that she is more than the powerless whipping girl she’s been made to believe.
A Fire in the Sky is the perfect for fans of slow-burn romance and high-stakes fantasy. Stories where the fate of an entire kingdom lies in the hands of a reluctant heroine. The complex dynamics between Tamsyn and Fell, coupled with the overarching threat of forgotten magic and power struggles, makes a unputdownable read.
Thank you Sophie Jordan and Avon for giving me a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
