Honest Book Review of Crave

Crave is the first book of Tracy Wolff’s YA Fantasy Romance series that has certainly been hyped by readers. Finally succumbing to FOMO, I read this first book in the series and it didn’t disappoint nor did it fail my expectations.
Okay, I am going to go ahead and say it. But isnāt it weird how similar this book is to Twilight? There are a lot of similarities that you cannot ignore. But there is a different take on it that makes you want to read this.
Besides the fact that there were strange times of Deja Vu while reading this. This wasnāt as bad as I thought it would be. I avoided this book for a while because I was a little put off from rereading the Twilight series. Still, throughout this book, there was a lot of eye-rolling from me, but I think this is better than the Twilight series. *gasp* I know.
You have Grace whose parents have died and were forced to move to Alaska to a boarding school out in the middle of nowhere. *cough* Bella to Washington. There she meets Jackson, the damaged bad boy Jackson. *cough* Edward. All the guys in this book seemed to be described as damaged for some reason. You see him relentlessly try to stay away and warn Grace not to be with him because of how dangerous he is. āHacking cough* Edward. You get the picture.
Of course, our girl Grace does not fall for that and pursues him anyway! Welcome unhealthy tendencies from our main female character.
It takes about, I donāt know, maybe 60% of the book for her to figure out that Jackson is a vampire and she is in a school full of shapeshifters and vampires. Not sure why no one told her in the beginning because you would have thought that stuff would get out eventually.
It is funny how many times this girl gets hurt and close to death in this book. She rarely attends her classes because she is sick, skipping out, or injured to the point of being bedridden. Someone was always trying to kill her and I wanted to throw my phone (I was listening to the audio) every time she had a near-death experience. I am surprised that her uncle, the headmaster, didn’t send her home soone
I do have to say that the romance between Grace and Jackson is kindaā¦you knowā¦.gagging. Grace: āHe smells like oranges and deep water. I sink into the scent of him.ā Here is my neck and SUCK MY BLOOD! Maybe I am going off of the Vampire Academy, but I am like girlā¦you are too easy.
Donāt get me started at the end of Crave where I thought it was transitioning the New Moon for the next book. Jackson: I donāt think it will be safe for me to be with you and also that everything that bad happens is because I didnāt protect Grace fast enough. Then Grace goes into full beg mode of why that’s not true and why they should stay together. My eyes rolled so much that I saw the back of my head on that one. But thank goodness they didnāt separateā¦..because my Twilight theory would have been confirmed. Because for a moment there, I was seriously convinced that Stephanie Meyer is a ghostwriter this one.
I did a lot of eye-rolling in Crave, it is a new guilty pleasure of mine. I will read this over Twilight. A lot is going on in this book, so I liked it as much as I did. I will be continuing this series due to the plot being so fascinating and not the unhealthy romance between Jackson and Grace.
