Honest Book Review of Broken Dove

I’m not going to lie, I thought Broken Dove was so much better than the first book of this series.
I enjoyed Silver Elite, but it wasn’t perfect. I gave it four stars and had a few issues with it. This book, though? It completely pulled me into the story.
There were so many twists and turns, and I genuinely had no clue what was coming. Every time I thought I had something figured out, another secret came out and changed everything.
Broken Dove picks up after Wren’s secret is exposed and she leaves the Prime controlled capital. She is now working with the Uprising while Cross stays behind, but that doesn’t mean she is suddenly surrounded by people she can trust.
Honestly, I didn’t know who to trust either.
Everyone seemed to be hiding something, and some of the reveals completely caught me off guard. Wren is also learning more about her parents, her past, and the people involved in the Uprising. The deeper she gets, the more complicated everything becomes.
I also liked the relationships much more in this book. Wren and Cross are dealing with distance, secrets, and trust issues, while Gray continues to make everything even messier.
And yes, I was invested in the mess.
This book had more action, more tension, and a lot more happening than Silver Elite. The world felt bigger, the rebellion became more interesting, and I cared much more about what was happening to the characters.
I still don’t really consider this series a romantasy. To me, it feels much more like a dystopian romance with psychic abilities. If you want to know how I separate the genres, you can read my guide to romantasy vs. fantasy romance.

My Final Thoughts
I did not expect to love Broken Dove as much as I did, especially since I had mixed feelings about parts of the first book.
But Dani Francis really stepped it up with this one.
The twists were shocking, the story kept moving, and I never felt like I knew exactly where it was going. Then that ending happened and now I need the next book.
If you read my honest book review of Silver Elite, you know I was surprised that I wanted to continue the series.
Now I am fully invested.

Okay, we need to talk about the betrayals in this book because they were INTENSE.
I seriously did not know who Wren could trust. Every time it seemed like she had finally found someone who was on her side, another secret came out. The betrayals kept piling up, and I never felt like I had the entire story figured out.
But Gray and Wren?!
I did not think they were actually going to get together. I expected some tension and maybe a few moments that would make us question who Wren might choose, but I never thought they would actually sleep together and eventually confess their love for one another.
Usually, authors do not let the main character go that far with someone who may not be end game. So now I have questions.
Is Cross really end game? Is Gray? Are we getting a full love triangle? Because Dani Francis just made this situation so much messier, and I am completely invested in seeing how it plays out.
And then we need to talk about THE ENDING!!!
Wren was almost killed by Jim’s brother, and Cross arrived just in time to save her. But for a moment, he truly thought she was dead.
DEAD!!!
After everything they had already been through, watching Cross believe he had lost her was brutal. That entire scene had me stressed because I genuinely did not know if Wren was going to survive.
What a plot twist.
Between the betrayals, Gray and Wren actually getting together, and that ending, Broken Dove left us with so many questions. I need the next book because I have to know what happens with Wren and Cross, what Gray’s role will be, and who can actually be trusted after all of this.
