Author: Kiera Cass
“A Thousand Heartbeats,” by Kiera Cass is a sweet fantasy romance that will sweep you off your feet.
Being a fan of the author’s Selection series, I wanted to pick this one up to read.
I didn’t go with high expectations because I didn’t care for the Betrothed series. I felt that the series was poorly executed. But I am so glad that I read this one.
This has an adorable enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance between two main characters who are from different backgrounds. This was also written to be a star-crossed lover romance story.
Princess Annika lives a comfortable life in her kingdom. But not a normal princess, she trains to fight in secret, so she knows how to defend herself. But as the second child in the family, she must wed someone who her father commands. Being that she has no choice, is forced to accept.
Lennox is a soldier who fights for his ruler in an army that is cruel and believes in taking the kingdom that was stolen from them.
Through chance, Princess Annika is captured by Lennox where she discovers the secrets that he carries. Even though there was much hatred for each other, they couldn’t help to get to know one another through some unexpected circumstances. Eventually, they start to build a bond that leads to a romance.
Even though there were a lot of odds against them, their romance is sweet and against all odds you see them fight to be with each other.
I loved this book and thought it was well-written. A Thousand Heartbeats title in this book was slightly overused. But it didn’t affect the quality of the book.
I would recommend it if you needed a light romance with a little royal intrigue and action.
This is a stand-alone fantasy romance that I would say is a good palate cleanser.
